Tasty Tuesday
Posted in Uncategorized, recipes | No Comments »Last week, we had an “at home date night”. We put the kids to bed early and cooked together a somewhat fancy meal. It was so much fun. We even dressed up and then ate together. Anyway, for our salads I made homemade croutons! I love croutons, but they are not the most frugal investment. :) So, I used the ends of a loaf of bread to make these and they were delicious!!!!!! The recipe is from the Gifts for Giving Gooseberry Patch cookbook. I hope you enjoy these as much as I did. I ate so many before dinner even began…
Cheese & Garlic Croutons
4 Tbs. butter
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/2 tsp. celery salt (I didn’t have any…I used regular salt)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 Tbs. onion, minced
2 cups whole-wheat bread, cubed
2 Tbs. Parmesan cheese, grated
-Heat butter in a large skillet. Add seasonings, garlic, and onion; cook for about one minute to soften.
-Stir in bread cubes; saute until browned and crisp. Toss with cheese until evenly distributed.
-Croutons may be reheated and crisped in a 350 F oven for 5 minutes.
